Latest coronavirus infection rates for Greater Manchester

The coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester has continued to rise, including in Bolton.

There has been a significant spike in new Covid infections across the country in recent weeks, just days before lockdown restrictions are set to be dropped.

Bolton was one of the first areas in the country to see a rise in infections in late April and early May due to the spread of the Delta variant.

This was brought under control through surge testing and vaccinations, with Bolton now having the lowest infection rate in Greater Manchester.

However, it has now started to gradually rise again.

In the seven days to July 10, Bolton recorded 938 new positive cases of Covid-19, equalling an infection rate of 362.2 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This is an increase from the previous seven days, to July 3, where the town recorded a rate of 315.1 per 100,000.

Manchester and Bury are the only boroughs in Greater Manchester to see a fall in cases recently, with Oldham now recording the highest rate.

This comes just days before lockdown restrictions are set to be dropped on July 19 - dubbed 'freedom day'.

Metro Mayor, Andy Burnham, announced today that face masks wqill still be required on trams across GM, with people being recommended to wear them on buses and trains still.
