Dual Cup winner Joseph OBrien on his way to Melbourne

Two-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Joseph O’Brien will be at Flemington on Tuesday to help saddle up last year’s winner, Twilight Payment.

O’Brien left Ireland in the early hours of Monday morning (AEDT) and had a stop over in Singapore on Monday afternoon, and was due to arrive at Tullamarine just after 9pm on Melbourne Cup eve.

The Irish maestro, son of champion trainer Aidan O’Brien, also won last month’s Cox Plate with State Of Rest.

But he was unable to be at Flemington in 2020 when Twilight Payment saluted under Jye McNeil for Lloyd and Nick Williams.

O’Brien was on course, however, in 2017 when Rekindling provided the then 24-year-old with an incredible major to kick off his training career.

A former champion in the saddle as a jockey, O’Brien has made a seamless transition to training.

More so, his ability to win a Melbourne Cup in 2020 and a Cox Plate in 2021 while training remotely has highlighted how successful is training routines have become.

Twilight Payment is a $13 third favourite for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
